What is the moratorium on Foreign Ownership of Land and other immoveable property?

In early 2021, the government determined to place a moratorium on the sale of residential properties to foreigners. The moratorium on the sale of land in Seychelles to non-Seychellois, for residential purposes, will continue to remain in place until such time as the Government of Seychelles is better able to understand the specific Seychelles market dynamics.

The Indian Ocean archipelago of 115 islands has a total land area of 455 square kilometers spread over an Exclusive Economic Zone of 1.4 km. Half of the Seychelles' land territory is protected under

law as nature reserves, making the available land scarce and consequently extremely valuable.
